The National Library of Somalia (NLS) participated in the 36th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information (AFLI), held in Doha, Qatar, from 23 to 25 November 2025. The conference was hosted by the Qatar National Library (QNL) and brought together leaders of national libraries and information institutions from across the Arab world.
The conference was organized under the theme: “Digital Justice and Arab Information Institutions: Enhancing Partnership, Sustainability, and Digital Transformation.”
The Director General of the National Library of Somalia represented the Library at this high-level regional forum, reaffirming Somalia’s commitment to re-engaging with Arab and international library networks following years of disruption.
Participation in the conference provided an important platform for professional dialogue on digital transformation, equitable access to information, and sustainable preservation of documentary heritage. The Director General engaged with counterparts from Arab national libraries, strengthening institutional relationships and opening pathways for future cooperation.
The discussions and experiences shared during the conference are directly relevant to the National Library of Somalia’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the Library and develop a national digital preservation strategy aimed at safeguarding Somalia’s written and documentary heritage.
The National Library of Somalia remains committed to strengthening regional partnerships and adopting best practices that support digital justice, institutional sustainability, and inclusive access to knowledge.
