Mogadishu, Somalia – 14 April 2026

The Somali National Library (SNL) was honored to participate in the program “Celebrating Somali Cultural Rights,” organized by the Human Rights Protection Group (HRPG), which operates under the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia.

The Director General of the Somali National Library delivered an important speech highlighting its fundamental role in preserving, archiving, and promoting the intellectual and cultural heritage of the Nation.

During the program, the walls of the venue prominently displayed modern photographs reflecting the condition and activities of the Somali National Library, which deeply reminded participants of the importance of the National Library and Archives institution and the challenges that still exist.

Participation in this program was a valuable opportunity to strengthen understanding of the role that cultural institutions play in preserving national identity, fostering social cohesion, and supporting sustainable development.

The Somali National Library once again reaffirms its commitment to preserving and promoting Somali culture so that present and future generations may benefit from it.
